INTERIOR | SOUTHERN CHARM MEETS MARTHA'S VINEYARD

We technically have not been to Martha's Vineyard (yet), but we imagine that the decor and vibe of the area would be somewhat reflective of the beautiful hues and palette of greens, blues and whites fashioned here in this wonderful home.  The crisp white staple serves as the perfect base for the sharp patterns, bold expressions, and antique flavors that frame the design of this southern residence.

NNENNA FREELON + LUCY DANIELS + THE UMSTEAD HOTEL

It’s a reason that 9-5’s are referred to as “work”. A photographer’s life can be quite contrary to this notion though. Recently I had an atypical workday.  I walked into the beautiful and luxurious Umstead Hotel and Spa where in my opinion, “every time feels like the first time.” Today’s “work” included capturing a collaboration meeting of two chefs from The Umstead, two chefs from An, one Lucy Daniels executive and the amazing, uber-talented Nnenna Freelon, all in preparation for the Lucy Daniels Center's Expressions 2013 event.

I had to pinch (well not literally) myself about being blessed to be able to snap away during such a God moment!  I clicked, jotted notes, and paused on several occasions to give God the glory for allowing that shoot to be work for the day.  I called Khris after the shoot to give him the details and let him know that it was one of my memorable moments in life.  He said “what about getting married and having a baby?” I said, “Of course, salvation, marriage and having a baby are by FAR my top three moments of all time, but this was certainly, a top 15 moment!”

Here are some words of wisdom from Nnenna…
·      “Everything that you do informs your audience”
·      “Nature loves improvisation”
·      “Jazz is equal opportunity music”
·      “Ideas travel by water”
·      “Glorious mistakes” (in response to not being afraid and encouragement to try new things)

Below is just a glimpse of snapshots taken from this "glorious" experience...

INTERIOR | SOUTHEASTERN EUROPEAN INFLUENCE

Due to the nature of this physician's hectic work schedule and the need for an inviting retreat, there were a lot of conversations enjoyed over early morning coffee about transforming this beautiful base into a home of comfort, femininity, and charm.  From the intricate details of vintage Serbian photos, to the pops of color throughout and the custom sofa that truly delivers an elegant warmth to the living space, this design highlights the glamour of luxe and brilliance.

HOPE FOR HENDERSON

"If I can help somebody, as I pass along.
If I can cheeer somebody, with a word or song,
If I can show somebody, He is travelling wrong
Then my living shall not be in vain" - Mahalia Jackson

Recent 2013 reports from the North Carolina Department of Instruction show that Vance County is dead last out of 115 county school systems in high school graduation rates in North Carolina. While academic adminstrators, high school alumni, and Vance County residents are boldly disappointed and thoroughly frustrated, there is still hope for Henderson.

In light of this terrible news and the constant barrage of negativity that we hear and see on television about my hometown, we wanted to show a positive reflection through the lens.  Even though we may not be able to "fix" these issues through the clicking of buttons on a camera, we still wanted to showcase the city's rich history, picturesque landmarks, and storied architecture that still boldly stand on the forefront of the town known as the "Gateway City".

WALTER MAGAZINE | SAKS FIFTH AVENUE + NBA WIVES

If diamonds are a girl's best friend, then there were a lot of new BFFs made recently.  About 15 of the NBA Wives were in Raleigh during August for a weekend retreat designed to strengthen their financial footprint, spiritual lives and philanthropic efforts as individuals.  Tiffany Wilcox, Raleigh native and wife of former Boston Celtic and Enloe High School great Chris Wilcox, hosted the event as the women noshed on hors d'oeuvres and mingled amongst the Al Strong Band.

Saks Fifth Avenue invited the ladies to be a part of a private shopping experience where Graff Diamonds showcased over $20 million in jewels from New York for the event.  One of the most memorable exhibits were the infamous $1.4 million headphones, adorned with 1,600 diamonds worn by dance music duo LMFAO during the Super Bowl.  We hope you enjoy vicariously living through these photos as much as we enjoyed the night!

WALTER MAGAZINE | JUSTIN LEBLANC OF PROJECT RUNWAY

We all go to NC STATE!  Recently, we were selected to shoot Justin LeBlanc, native of Raleigh, fellow Wolfpacker, and contestant of the current season of Lifetime's Project Runway, for the 1st Anniversary issue of Walter Magazine.  LeBlanc is also an assistant professor at NC State in the College of Design where he graduated from in 2009.  From the beauty of transforming a malleable design from wool, to boiling pennies for 20 minutes to create a cutting-edge collar for the fashion piece, Justin is a design maven in the making.  We tip our hats to this fashion designer that contributes his inspiration to the likes of Alexander McQueen.
