DIY | CHICK-FIL-A'S YUMMY KALE SALAD

We love the new Superfood Kale Salad at Chick-Fil-A.  Yummy chicken sandwiches for the daughter and a nice, healthy kale salad for the adults have us cheesing all day, every day!

So, we decided that we would try to make the Kale Salad at home.  I know, we're fancy! LOL.  After a quick google search and finding this really simple recipe online, we were set.  I'm no chef; so if I can do it, you can do it!

Easy and perfect for the spring and summer season.  Eat up and enjoy!

Everyone has a kale something menu item!  I wonder what the health trend will be next year.

We are both engineers by education and fond of science.  As we made the salad dressing, it turned into a little science experiment.  Throwback tribute to 6th grade!

Looks so yummy!  Will taste even better. Guaranteed.

Not bad for a first try!  If at first you don't succeed, try again.

Ingredients needed
  • About 8 cups chopped kale
  • About 2-3 cups broccoli florets (we didn't use in this batch of salad pictured below)
  • ½ cup sunflower kernels
  • ½ cup dried cherries
  • ½ cup cider vinegar
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • 5 tablespoons good quality maple syrup  (Yes, Aunt Jemima's is good quality)
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions
  1. Place kale, broccoli, sunflower kernels, and dried cherries in a very large bowl. Set aside.
  2. In mason jar, add vinegar, oil, maple syrup, salt, and pepper. Put lid on and shake really well, until combined.
  3. Pour over kale mixture and stir to coat. Store, covered, in the refrigerator, for up to two days.

HAPPY 1ST ANNIVERSARY HEATHER + PHILLIP!

My how time flies!  Just a year ago we were preparing to capture one of our favorite wedding celebrations.  This misty, outdoor wedding held at the beautiful JC Raulston Arboretum was one absolutely scripted for a movie.  Heather and Phillip braved the spring mist and occasional rain fabulously well!  The few photos below only give you a petite glimpse into the huge love fest that day.

Happy 1st Anniversary Heather and Phillip!  Cheers to your wonderful life together and may you continue to celebrate your bliss today and forevermore.

Daddy's Little Rose

Valentine's Day has come and gone, but the memories that last forever are those sweet moments that you cherish together with your family, spouse, friends, special person in your life, and of course, your children.

This Valentine's Day, we "celebrated" in the more formal sense of the holiday. Traditionally, we celebrate the holiday every day!  But this year, Khris wanted to do something a little extra for our now preschool daughter, Raegan.  She's very aware of the Valentine's holiday and Khris says, "I can't let some dude eventually out gift me."  He went out and bought our little princess some really sweet gifts, but the one that stands out to me most are the beautiful pink roses.

From the photos below, we hope you get a sense of how sweet the memory of the holiday should be not only on February 14, but everyday of the year.

Here's to beauty in everything, living February 14 everyday, and being inspired by a Daddy's love....

TIMELESS GOES HOLLYWOOD ON HOUZZ.COM + RECEIVES 2015 BEST OF HOUZZ AWARD

Wow!  Unfortunately, we woke up really early Friday morning since our little toddler didn't have the best sleeping night (which is extremely rare), but fortunately the early morning rise was all the better once we received notification from Houzz.com that our design photography landed on their homepage!!  Can you say ELATED!

We had no idea that a couple of years ago our dining room design would be so popular amongst a global design community such as Houzz.  Almost a year ago to the date, the same dining inspiration received the "Best of Houzz 2014 Award" and has garnered a "Best of Houzz 2015 Award."

With the Oscars and award season in tow, Houzz featured our design photo as inspiration to curate a Hollywood Regency style collection.  See story images below and click on links above to design your glamorous dining space.

WALTER MAGAZINE | THE 13 TREES OF CHRISTMAS

You can say we've been on a little bit of a sabbatical from blogging and such and this time of year always proves to be even more chaotic. As photographers, parents and people that love life, we are still learning how to balance work and life, but we think that's a never ending challenge that most of us continue to navigate.  Nevertheless, we are so excited about Christmas especially now that Raegan is almost two and just adores decorations, trees, lights, ornaments and really all things Christmas.

Speaking of Christmas, we are elated about our feature story in the current issue of Walter Magazine.  We were both able to shoot the gorgeous residence and Christmas collection for one of Raleigh's most spirited holiday homes. You may remember that we scored the cover and feature story of Walter last December, which brings a huge smile to our faces all over again:)

Founder and President of the Preiss Company, Donna and Kirk were both very welcoming and engaging as they shared stories, moments and memories of their travels across the globe securing each and every Christmas ornament along the way.  Every delicate and unique ornament had a story, which made our photoshoot incredibly intriguing.  We love to capture stories of people, places and things, but these lovely thirteen trees and accompanying ornaments hands down speak for themselves.  Take a look for yourselves.  There were so many to choose from, but here's a snapshot of the collection.

Just all around lovely!

Why not have a couple of decorative trees outdoors on your porch!

This was by far the most amazing upside down tree we've ever seen!
The storage and filing system for each ornament could be another photoshoot itself..wow!

No caption needed.

A WARM + INVITING WAKE FOREST RESIDENCE

Shooting interiors is quite different than capturing people, travel, food and events. With interiors, the challenge is to make the inantimate dance, the expressionless exude emotion, and the stillness tell its narrative.

Images of the home are open invitations to family dinner tables and living room relaxation retreats. In addition, the residence showcases individuality in style and character through the clothing of decor. Grabbing and sharing these attributes through a lens is exciting for us!

Our latest project found us at the home of an inviting Wake Forest residence. The spacious kitchen, open dining areas and lounging spaces, and the richly decorated bedrooms all sofly say "welcome". Take a look for yourselves and embrace the warm invitation extended to you...

STYLE AND CLASS CONQUER

Hi everyone, meet Susan!  Susan is classy, energetic and funny!  Susan is also fond of world travel, a great read, her dog Smokey Joe, and just adores her 10 month old granddaughter Margo, who lives in Brooklyn.  We were a little nervous when she asked us to capture some headshots for her because of her insistence on not liking her photographs.  So much for thinking you do not photograph well my dear because you brought it!! Thank you Susan for bringing great energy and amazing, timeless style to the shoot. Hopefully, your precious granddaughter will one day look back on these images and love them as well.

WALTER MAGAZINE | HEALING CEILINGS

Amy Jo Edwards has a passionate desire to beat cancer in a HUGE yet INSPIRING way!  Amy has created an organization that commissions artists from various walks of life to paint ceiling tiles that are currently hung from ceilings in hospitals and cancer treatments centers now in the eastern region of North Carolina, but her hopes are to have these beautiful pieces of "visual vacations and colorful comfort" that will eventually live all throughout the country.

We were asked to head over to Artspace in Downtown Raleigh to shoot Amy and the story of Healing Ceilings for the August issue of Walter Magazine.  Here's a few of our favorites from the shoot.

TIMELESS PHOTOJOURNALISM FEATURED ON Z GALLERIE

Summer is a time for lemonade and vacations. We haven't had much of either, but it may seem that we've vacationed from blogging to some. To make up for our absence, over the new few weeks, we hope to bring you a glimpse of images and posts from recent work and projects.

Today, we were super surprised to see what we are sharing with you. As avid fans of interior design, one of our favorite local stores is Z Gallerie. We've furnished quite a bit of our home with many of their pieces. So anyway, randomly out of the blue, Khris sends me a text that says: "Carla, check the email I sent you…NOW!" I perused my email in anticipation and curiosity to discover the attached campaign from Z Gallerie, complete with a Timeless Photojournalism interior product picture!! What! Are you joking? Crazy…random…awesomesauce! What a way to end the month of July! Now if we can just find time for that lemonade and vacation!  #summersurprises #byejuly #helloaugust #zgallerie #timelessphotojournalism
